Description

This is my #1 favorite locomotive of all time, 4960. 4960 was a coal-burning 2-8-2 Mikado steam locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1923 and was purchased by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (or Burlington Route). In 1985, 4960 was sold to the Grand Canyon Railway. In 1989, 4960's headlight was moved from the top of the smokebox to the front of the smokebox, her bell was moved from behind the smokestack to the top of the smokebox, and 4960 was given a new cowcatcher and tender. In 2002 (I think), 4960's original 5 chime whistle (I think), was replaced with a 6 chime whistle (which I prefer). In 2009, the Grand Canyon Railway started fueling 4960 with waste vegetable oil to be more eco-friendly and last longer (which I prefer). Because of that, it's now known as the Greenest Train in America. But that also made less smoke shoot from the engine's stack, which a lot of photographers liked to film, so the railway also put sand in the firebox to build more smoke. 4960 now hauls excursion trains on the Grand Canyon Railway, once a month from February to September and for special holidays.

4960 is my favorite locomotive, because she's mostly black with some grey, red, and yellow, which I find very pretty, she has eight driving wheels, which is my favorite number of driving wheels for a steam locomotive, she now has a 6 chime whistle, which is my favorite type of whistle, I love the look she's had since the Grand Canyon Railway purchased her, and she now runs on waste vegetable oil, which is less harmful to the environment and herself.

This art was edited from my art of Santa Fe 3751 (link: shotgundude.deviantart.com/art…). Since 2002, 4960 started doubleheading with 3751, sometimes. This picture was made on Microsoft Paint.
