Description

This is some art of my 3rd favorite locomotive, Milwaukee Road 261, edited from my art of Santa Fe 3751 (link: shotgundude.deviantart.com/art…) and Grand Canyon 4960 (link: shotgundude.deviantart.com/art…). On the logo on the engine's tender, I highlighted the "Chica" in Chicago in yellow as a play on words. Try to guess what it is. ;)

Milwaukee Road 261 is a coal-burning 4-8-4 Northern steam locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company in 1944 and was purchased by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (or Milwaukee Road). The railroad mounted a 3 chime whistle and an airhorn on the locomotive. 261 was retired in 1954, until she was restored and brought back to the rails in 1993. In 1996, a Santa Fe 6 chime whistle was added to the locomotive, but she still also has her original 3 chime whistle and airhorn. Her mars light was removed in 2013, but I think she looks a little better with it, so this picture takes place when she still had her mars light, but also after her 6 chime whistle was added. 261 still runs on the rails, today.

Again, on the logo on the engine's tender, I highlighted the "Chica" in Chicago in yellow as a play on words. Try to guess what it is. ;)

I like this picture too. How long did it take you to make this? This couldn't been done in an hour and still look this good! ...unless you're a faster artist than I am. And I like that the shade on the locomotive is lighter instead of just mono-black. It allows you and others to add the darker details.

You also did good on the light gray part on the wheels. I know I'm almost 30 years old but isn't that called the Piston?

Very big tender! I usually see tenders shorter and or lower than the locomotive, although I admit I've seen large coal tenders. And I'm guessing the mars light is red.

Those these aren't mars lights, well maybe they are, but I like the red lights seen on the ends of commuter trains and light rail trains. And Amtrak's trains use them too. I've liked that since 2003. White lights meaning the train is heading toward you, red lights mean the train is heading away from you. And I try to be careful not to forget to include that in my commuter train artwork.

Okay let's see, "Try to guess what it is." Now I don't often hear the phrase "Play on words," and the only other thing I heard it on is Jason Mraz's song "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" (my most favorite song by him.) But back to the picture. So when you say "Chica," you don't by any chance mean Chica from PBS Sprout do you? Chica from "The Chica Show." www.sproutonline.com/shows/chi…

Did I get it right? Did I get it wrong? Most likely I did. Oh well, at least I tried. I don't really watch the Chica Show all that much to tell you the truth, although I do like the rabbit Benji. Well, I hope I find out the right answer if it's not the right answer.

UPDATE:
I looked more into your profile and I now think I got the wrong Chica. Did I?
